Jorge Muñiz conducting EC/21 at IUSB.
Next, weeek, I start on the first of three exciting collaborations.
First, I will continue working with Jorge Muñiz and the fantastic instrumentalists of Ensemble Concept/21 at Indiana University South Bend. The ensemble's April 17 concert, titled "New Voice in Michiana," will feature seven new works by student composers. I will conduct the ensemble in the world premiere performance of Estudios de Colores by Gabriel Ordás and The Owls of Evening Pines by John Griffith.
In its inaugural season, EC/21 is the only new music ensemble of its kind in Northern Indiana. The instrumentalists are drawn from the ranks of professional musicians in South Bend Symphony, factulty of Indiana University South Bend, and Chicago-area professionals.
The ensemble has already received great acclaim, and I am honored to work with Prof. Muñiz and this wonderful group of musicians.
Next, I move back in time to 17th-century German to conduct a set of motets from Schütz's Geistliche Chormusik, with Notre Dame Collegium Musicum. Last December, I collaborated with conductor Daniel Stowe and this impressive group of singers as a keyboard artist. This Spring, I am thrilled to share the podium with Maestro Stowe.
Just a short time later, I will make my debut as a singer in South Bend Chamber Singers. Widely regarded as one of the country's top community choral organizations, conductor Nancy Menk continues to build on the choir's reputation of quality and innovative programming - this time performing an entire program of Russian music. Dr. Menk has generously invited me to conduct two works on this concert.
