I'm very pleased to announce a new commission from the Sisters of the Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Indiana. The religious order was founded in France in 1841 and now serves in 8 countries through the work of 400 religious sisters.
The new work, I Will Sing to the Lord, is based on a work of the same name by Sister Cecile Marie, a Sister of the Holy Cross who was an influential figure in establishing the role of women in Catholic liturgical music in the early 20th century. Taking a the original work or Sister Cecile Marie, I juxtapose the her composition with new material based on Psalm 148 - "Praise the Lord for the Heavens." The chosen text is intended to highlight the Sister's commitment to environmental stewardship as means of glorifying God and achieving justice in society.
I Will Sing to the Lord will be premiered by the Choir of Our Lady of Loretto under the direction of Ms. Jamie Caporizo on July 10 at 11:15am Mass celebrating the 75th jubilee of the sisters.
